“Pick Your Paradise”
Take a look at the cover of the February 2009 issue of National Geographic Adventure.
Look familiar? It should– Catalina was named one of the top 15 islands in the world for outdoor recreation.
The article points to the fact that while Avalon has all the amenities of a small city, the vast majority of the island is virtually untouched, describing “sunbaked hills etched with trails and old fire roads, pocket coves patrolled by sea lions, and wide grasslands roamed by descendants of bison brought over for a 1920s movie shoot.”
It also points to the soon-to-be-opened Trans-Catalina Trail, which will connect Avalon to the remote Parson’s Landing in a continuous, 27.5 mile trail.
Other top islands included Bermuda, the Canary Islands, and the Big Island of Hawaii.
