Plein Air at the Catalina Museum
Catalina’s beautiful ocean views, rolling hillsides, and charming communities have been inspiring artists for well over 100 years. Starting January 30, the Catalina Island Museum will be hosting a plein air painting exhibition, showing 20 historic and contemporary pieces featuring Catalina Island.
Plein Air– a French term meaning “open air”– has much in common with Impressionism. In both types, the artist tries to capture nature as it really is, by paying close attention to detail and painting outdoors, where they can experience nature as fully as possible.
The exhibit, which is sponsored by the Society for the Advancement of Plein Air Painting, will run until June 7. For more information, you can visit the museum’s web page, or call them at 310-510-2414.

Jeff -
I just returned to Minneapolis from Catalina (Thanks for the comment on my photo blog, mitchster.com). I was there from the 18th to the 25th with Joe Paquet. He was teaching a Plein Air workshop there. I had a wonderful time on your island and hated to return to my frozen home.
