Cruise Ships Flock to Avalon
With the recent Swine Flu outbreak in Mexico, Catalina Island has become the new must-see location on the Pacific coast! Many of the cruise ships that sail out of Southern California and surrounding regions are diverting their itineraries away from the Mexican ports and heading for safer waters.
We will be seeing a record number of cruise ship visits over the next several weeks, providing a much needed boost into our island economy. As of this writing, there are ships coming into port on all but 6 days in May. That is more than 50,000 new visitors looking to shop and sight-see until they drop!
The Chamber of Commerce reports that the situation is in constant flux and new ships may be adding themselves to the itinerary over the next several days and weeks.
