Airport in the Sky Celebrates 50 years!
Up until 1959, the Airport in the Sky was only available to those who leased land and facilities from the Santa Catalina Island Company. In October of that year, it all changed when 40 privately owned planes were flown in to start a new era for private pilots all over the world.
Join the Conservancy and its Pilot Supporters for a celebration honoring 50 years of service to general aviation. The event will be held on Sunday, October 18 at the Airport in the Sky. We’ve rolled back landing fees to just $3! The DC-3 Gifts and Grill will have a cookout all day long featuring historic favorites, including Sky Burgers, buffalo burgers, beans and cole slaw. There will be live music, prizes and much more.
